PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH MOVIE SPOILER FREE REVIEW
My favorite movie this year ended up being puss in boots and the wishing star. This movie really surprised me. A sequel to a Shrek spinoff is a recipe for making a bad movie but it's the exact opposite this movie is incredible. The music and animation are fantastic and the character's designs are super creative. The emotional scenes hit and it's genuinely really funny. This movie is in my opinion a movie everyone should see.
(THIS IS A SPOILER-FREE REVIEW OF PUSS IN BOOTS: THE LAST WISH) You know I wasn’t planning on making any more reviews for the year and was gonna start working on my top 10 list. But then I decided to go watch this. I liked the first movie as a kid but never really cared that much about it so I had no expectations for this film. And holy crap I was blown away by this film. This was such a pleasant surprise for how great it was.
THE LAST WISH DELIVERS A SPECTACULARLY ANIMATED ADVENTURE
This film again follows feline outlaw Puss in Boots (voiced again by Antonio Banderas) who realizes that he is on the last of his 9 lives (as shown in a really funny montage) and he retires to a cat home. He’s eventually pulled back into adventure when he learns of a wishing Star that will grant the wish of anybody. So he goes on an adventure with Kitty Softpaws (voiced again by Salma Hayek) and a dog named Pedro (voiced by Harvey Guillen) while being outsiders by the three bears led by Goldie (voiced by Florence Pugh) Big Jack Horner (voiced by John Mulaney) and the Big Bad Wolf (voiced by Wagner Moura) First of all, I love the animation.
It’s a mix of classic dream works animation style and the Spider-Verse style that’s more colorful and has a slower frame rate allowing for more fast and exciting action and beautiful scenery all of which are very well directed by Joel Crawford. And all of the villains are great (they don’t overshadow each other and are all entertaining. But the Wolf character especially was fantastic and legit terrifying and one of the better-animated villains I’ve seen in years) and it’s a really good story with great themes and messages (it’s a good character study of Puss having to come to grips with his mortality and the mistakes he’s made in his life which I did not expect) in the end, I had no interest in watching this movie and I’m so glad I decided to anyway because this is probably the best-animated movie I’ve seen this year (and honestly one of the best-animated movies I’ve seen the past decade) with amazing action, beautiful animation, a really great story for families. It’s a really great one I recommend it.
