Movie Review: Rudra

Rudra follows the gripping journey of a highly trained commando from Vajra, a secret unit under the Defence Ministry. Tasked with eliminating terrorist threats, Rudra faces a devastating personal loss — the death of his family — and betrayal that leaves him broken. His beloved Surabhi, once his source of strength, is no longer there to guide him. Disillusioned and lost, Rudra disappears into oblivion, only to be called back by duty. He must rise once more, not just to protect the nation, but to reclaim his identity and purpose.

Director Rupak Gogoi crafts this emotional and action-packed story with skill and conviction. Rudra is a proud moment for Assamese cinema, blending powerful storytelling with cinematic excellence. The direction, action sequences, and emotional weight are on par with top Hindi films.

Ravi Sarma delivers a standout performance as Rudra, capturing the pain, determination, and strength of a fallen hero. The supporting cast and technical aspects also contribute to the film’s strong impact.

While the story carries familiar themes of loss and redemption, it’s executed with sincerity. However, the film has very few light or comedic moments, which could have added some relief to the otherwise intense and serious tone. Despite this, the emotional engagement and action keep the viewer invested.

Overall, Rudra is a bold and heartfelt cinematic experience — a film that showcases the potential of Assamese cinema on a national scale.
My Personal Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
